Developments in the money market are characterised by an increasing use of derivatives and especially by the rapid advance of OIS/EONIA swaps. The importance of the classical interbank deposit market has continuously decreased, repos have become standard. The separation of interest and liquidity management in the money market is a major challenge for the next years; and money market book risks have moved away from pure interest risk to basis risk.
Options have become a standard product, thinking in option risk factors has become industry standard. Optional features in customer transactions are by now being recognised in the banks‘ replica portfolios. In Corporate Treasury options have become standard; concerning structurered products the major challenge lies in identifying the underlying options and incorporating them in pricing and risk mapping.
Capital market saw the zero curve becoming standard through the development of the swap market. Very tight market spreads, high liquidity in plain vanilla and interest swap structures permit the fine tuning of the bank's long-term interest risks. Here as well, book management works via consolidated risk parameters – hence correlation hedges and basis risks become the major risk factors.
